Eadha undertook its final trip for the Lakeland Aspen collection work, on Thursday 2nd April. Maurice, the Forest Ranger with the National Trust ferried us out to the islands on Derwent Water where he had previously noted the location of aspen stands. The lake was like glass and the scenery stunning thanks to perfect weather conditions. A fine stand of aspen was located on St Herberts growing happily in pure shingle. No aspen was found on Lords Isle however, just lots of vicious testosterone fueled Canada Geese protecting their nests. Fortunately Maurice came armed with a paddle for protection! We then motored to the other side of the loch where at Brandelhow we found another fine stand, again growing in beach deposits. A successful and most enjoyable trip all round.
