Galloway Aspen Clone Collection
Eadha Enterprises is working for the Forestry Commission (FCS) to develop a collection of aspen clones for Galloway District which also includes the Isle of Arran. This work forms part of a wider partnership agreement between Eadha and FCS to establish a supply chain for aspen to deliver planting stock to a greatly increased programme of aspen planting for biodiversity and landscape purposes in the region.
Eadha will be putting its experience and knowledge of aspen to good use, to survey and map wild aspen clones throughout the region, and to collect root cuttings from these clones for propagation between January and March of 2014. This work will also help Eadha to further expand its national collection of aspen clones.
The target is to collect a further 24 clones from the Galloway area and 11 clones from Arran to supplement our existing collection of 25 clones to create a total clone bank of 60 clones.
If you are aware of any wild native aspen stands in the region please contact us. There is sure to be some unrecorded stands that we are unaware of.
